Remote Field Eddy Current Testing (RFET)

Remote Field Eddy Current Testing (RFET)

Also known as RFT or RFEC, this is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method used primarily for detecting flaws in conductive, especially ferromagnetic, tubes and pipes. Conventional eddy current testing struggles with the strong magnetic properties of steel, but the RFET method overcomes this limitation using a “through-transmission” magnetic field.

Key Applications

  • Inspecting ferrous tubing: It is widely used for inspecting boiler, heat exchanger, and pipeline tubes made of carbon steel, copper, brass, and stainless steel.
  • Detecting material degradation : RFET is effective at finding and sizing defects such as general wall thinning, corrosion, erosion, pitting, fretting, and cracking on both the inner and outer surfaces of the tube wall with nearly equal sensitivity.
  • Industrial use: :Key industries where it is applied include power generation, oil and gas, and petrochemical plants to ensure the integrity and safety of piping systems.
